Akilah opens the door to the future for young women in East Africa who don’t have the opportunity to pursue higher education. Ability to pay is the single greatest barrier to more women enrolling in Akilah’s program. Due to the ongoing insecurity and violence, the Akilah Institute was forced to close our campus in Burundi. It's not possible to predict when we can reopen.
While our Rwanda campus has limited physical space, we are able to transfer 45 of our 145 Burundian students. They have a deep hunger to continue their education and will be relocating to Rwanda for this opportunity.
This 3 minute video explains the Burundian crisis and why Akilah students need your help. An anonymous donor has agreed to match up to $100,000 in donations to support the Burundian Student Scholarship Fund. Please consider supporting our Burundian students who are seeking to continue their education in Rwanda.
Consider the impact of a small monthly commitment to Akilah:
$50 monthly gift = Daily lunch
$100 monthly gift = Academic materials
$250 monthly gift = 1 year at Akilah
$750 monthly gift = 3 years at Akilah
