Akilah opens the door to the future for young women in East Africa who don’t have the opportunity to pursue higher education. Ability to pay is the single greatest barrier to more women enrolling in Akilah’s program. With 550 students across two campuses by 2015, there is a critical need to expand Akilah’s Student Scholarship Fund.
While up to 90% of women in East Africa work in subsistence agriculture, earning less than $2 per day, Akilah students graduate with a 90% job placement rate and earn on average five times more than they would without an Akilah diploma.
Akilah turns five this year, and we hope to continue this momentum so that 1,000 students graduate by 2020. Meeting this goal depends on your support. Your generosity will allow Akilah to prepare more young women to launch meaningful careers in East Africa’s growing economy.
Consider the impact of a small monthly commitment to Akilah:
$50 monthly gift = Daily lunch
$100 monthly gift = Academic materials
$250 monthly gift = 1 year at Akilah
$750 monthly gift = 3 years at Akilah
